Mr. Johnson is a specialist in strategy, purchase, sale and valuation of going concern businesses.  His career encompasses business ownership, hands-on management, strategy planning, capital investment analyses and ownership transitions as a principal, advisor, advocate and intermediary.  These activities have been at leading Fortune 500 corporations, including Standard Oil of Indiana and Union Pacific Corporation, entrepreneurial ventures including a $12 million distribution business, and serving as advisor, advocate and intermediary for privately held business entities.

One of the country’s most respected business intermediaries, Mr. Johnson has served as President of the International Business Brokers Association, comprised of some 1,600 members from countries around the world.  In his service to the Association he headed up its strategic planning activities and the writing of its comprehensive examination for professional certification of business brokers and intermediaries.  He is a Fellow, Life Member, and a Certified Business Intermediary.    He also chaired the M&A Source, a specialty association of approximately 250 middle market specialist M&A intermediaries.  He is certified as a Merger & Acquisition Master Intermediary.  In the twenty-year history of his profession’s leading associations, he is the only member to have been honored in receiving every one of their highest awards and recognitions.  He was also awarded Financial Service Advocate of the year for Tulsa by the Metro Tulsa Chamber of Commerce and for the State of Oklahoma by the United States Small Business Administration.

    BUSINESS ADVISOR, ADVOCATE & INTERMEDIARY

Mr. Johnson founded Bluestem Resources Group in 1987 (now Bluestem Resources Affiliated Group, LLC) as business advisors and advocates for wealth creation throughout the business ownership life cycle.  Activities include the design and execution of business divestiture and purchase plans, business intermediary services, business appraisals, and strategic consultations.  Professionals in the firm have completed advisory and advocacy assignments for about 400 business owner clients, representing transactions valued from under $50,000 to over $20 million and including sale of nearly 200 businesses.  Industries served include manufacturing, distribution, business services and other basic business types. 

BUSINESS OWNERSHIP & GENERAL MANAGEMENT

In addition to owning and managing Bluestem Resources Group, Mr. Johnson was previously an owner and General Manager of a distribution and marketing business with full management responsibility including business development, acquisitions, marketing, trading, finance, operations, product procurement, a truck fleet, staff, administration and regulatory compliance.  He formulated and implemented strategy as a part of developing a $12 million revenue business prior to successful divestiture.    

Over the past three decades, he has also contemporaneously managed a land, ranching and minerals business, and has overseen investments in various small ventures. 

FORTUNE 500 COMPANY EXPERIENCE

Mr. Johnson has advised top executives on business development strategy, capital allocation, mergers, acquisitions, business issues and project development.   He has coordinated parent and subsidiary executive communications in strategy, investment evaluations, mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, capital budgeting and economic outlook for company with income of $1.5 billion and annual capital expenditures of $275 million. 

In addition, he has managed corporate strategy planning, capital budgeting and acquisition analyses for a $1.5 billion integrated petroleum company.   He has also supervised major project evaluations; refinery expansions, corporate acquisitions, exploration programs, retail marketing expansion investments and divestitures.  He has evaluated project investments, acquisitions, and expansions; planned, organized, and coordinated diverse teams to evaluate targeted acquisitions valued at $3 million to over $200 million; and designed and developed evaluation models.  

Mr. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa and a Masters in Business Administration from Texas Christian University.
